Feminizing Rhinoplasty FAQ
Feminizing rhinoplasty is a key procedure in facial feminization surgery, helping to refine the nose for a softer, more harmonious look.
In this FAQ section, we answer common questions about feminizing rhinoplasty, from how to determine if it’s right for you to details about the surgical approach, recovery process, and pricing.
Our goal is to provide clear, expert-backed information so you can make informed decisions about your surgery. If you have additional questions, we encourage you to book a consultation with our team.
Should I Get a Feminizing Rhinoplasty?
Content 1Feminizing rhinoplasty is about harmonizing your nose with your overall facial features, rather than adhering to strict gendered traits. Some ethnic features, such as an upturned nose, may be considered feminine in certain cultures but appear unnatural in others.
Factors like skin thickness, which can be influenced by testosterone, also affect results. While rhinoplasty reshapes the underlying bone and cartilage, skin texture and quality play a role in the outcome.
Ultimately, whether you pursue surgery depends on how much your nose contributes to gender dysphoria. A consultation can help clarify your goals, but personal reflection is key in making this decision.
What Techniques Do You Use for Feminizing Rhinoplasty?
We use the REVONose method by Facialteam, using an open rhinoplasty technique. This involves small incisions inside the nostrils and across the columella (the strip of tissue between them), allowing precise reshaping of the nasal structure.
Common refinements include:
- Nostril narrowing – Removing small wedges of skin at the nostril base to refine width (scars typically hide in natural folds but may remain faintly visible).
- Tip refinement – Sculpting the tip for a more delicate, narrow shape.
- Profile feminization – Smoothing or slightly curving the nasal bridge by removing bone and cartilage.
- Nasal bone narrowing – Adjusting wide nasal bones to create a slimmer appearance.
What Is Recovery Like?
Immediately After Surgery
If rhinoplasty is your only procedure, you can go home the same day or stay overnight for observation. Eating is allowed, but swelling may make it uncomfortable.
First Week
- Post-op Day 1: You’ll receive lymphatic drainage therapy to reduce swelling, followed by a review of post-op care.
- 1-Week Mark: We remove sutures and provide a second lymphatic drainage session.
Swelling & Healing Timeline
- Significant swelling and bruising peak early but improve within a few weeks.
- Most swelling subsides within 3 months, but subtle refinements continue over 12 months.
- Minimal physical activity (e.g., brisk walks) is recommended initially, with more intense exercise resuming at 6-8 weeks post-op.
Follow-Up Schedule
We typically see patients at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months post-op, with additional visits as needed.
